Hi! Thanks for stopping by! I'm Kristen, a content designer from St. Louis with a love for social content design, UX design, food, music & fun.
Essentially, a designer is a superhero. WE'RE OUT TO SAVE THE WORLD. From chaos, confusion. Miscommunication. Right? It's ugly out there. We're the problem solvers. We see logic and clarity before it is there. We see through the walls and obstacles to a clean, clear design solution. Being a designer means being fearless. It means seeing a blank screen, a white page as a challenge. It means designing your way out of quicksand and onto solid ground. Designers=Superheroes.
WHY IS DESIGN IMPORTANT?
When visual communication is clear, everything goes smoothly. But with bad design…terrible things could happen. Say a man is walking his dog and pauses to try and decipher some confusing signage. But it doesn’t make sense. Exasperated and frustrated, he kicks a can on the sidewalk. The can—also confused—hurtles through the air and startles a nearby bird; the bird escapes into an open window, where it knocks a burning candle into a trash can. Before you know it, the whole apartment building goes up in flames.
Design Style You Love:
"Anything that is smart, efficient, minimal and flat...with a sense of humor."
Design Pet Peeve:
"Using too many typefaces. Heavy nineties influence...really not into grunge. Anything that is too messy and obscures the message."
Favorite Design Program:
"Black. It somehow always feels right."
"Without a doubt, it's Futura by Paul Renner. It's classic, geometric and pretty perfect."
"Yeahburger logo by Tad Carpenter and the FedEx logo by Lindon Leader...love the arrow hidden between the 'E' and 'x.' Really well done."
"Teehanlax.com...it is beautifully responsive and uses live type well."
"So hard to decide...Capital Cities at the moment."
"Mexican, especially tacos!"
Guilty Pleasure Food:
"Squirrels...they have such personality!"
You Collect: "Smiles. Clothes. Music. And bicycles...really into those."
Decade You'd Go Back To:
"The 1920s sound pretty cool."
"Hmm, London, NYC, and Madrid."
If You Could Have Any Other Career:
"I'd probably be a restaurant reviewer."
